South Africa's fast bowlers are the envy of every team in the tournament, but for the second consecutive match the weather could get in the way of them strutting their stuff to the fullest. Rain washed out their opening match against Zimbabwe in Hobart on Tuesday with victory there for the taking, and the forecast for Sydney for Thursday's game against Bangladesh isn't the best.

A strong chance of showers has been forecast for the start of the match, but this time the rain shouldn't last long enough to prevent a result. The South Africans will hope that is the case, because they can ill afford to drop more points if they are to remain in the running for the semi-finals.

Having beaten the Netherlands in the earlier match in Hobart on Tuesday, the Bangladeshis aren't under that kind of pressure. But their batting order couldn't score more than 144/8 against the modest Dutch attack, and they will know they are up against a force of significantly greater magnitude on Thursday. Their best chance of meeting that challenge could be Afif Hossain, who scored 38 off 27 against the Netherlands.

Quinton de Kock skipped Wednesday's training session, which he could afford to do after hammering an unbeaten 47 off 18 on Tuesday. But the rest of South Africa's batting line-up could do with reacquainting themselves with Australian conditions, which they last experienced in a T201I at Carrara Oval in Queensland in November 2018. Of that XI, De Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi are in the World Cup squad.

What to expect: Rain. But how much? And don't assume you're going to see a glut of runs of the 11 grounds in Australia that have hosted T201ls, only the MCG has a lower run rate.
