Independence Day
Independence Day is an annual celebration
commemorating the anniversary of national independence. It is a red-letter day
in the history of every nation. Our Independence Day is the 26th March. The day
is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and fervor (CT) across the country every
year. The day begins with a 31-gun shots salute. At dawn, the President and the
Prime Minister on behalf of the nation place floral wreaths at the National Mausoleum
at Savar. Then diplomats, political parties, social and cultural organizations
and freedom fighters pay tribute to the martyrs. People from all walks of life
also visit there in rallies and processions. Independence Day is commonly
associated with parades, political speeches, fairs, concerts and various types
of events celebrating the history and traditions of Bangladesh. TV and radio
stations broadcast special programmes and patriotic songs to mark the day in a
befitting manner. National dallies bring out special supplements in honor of
the day. Different social and cultural organizations chalk out cultural
functions throughout the day highlighting the heroic struggle & sacrifice
in 1971. It is a public holiday. All schools, colleges, offices remain closed
on this day. All major public buildings are decorated beautifully. The whole country
takes a festive look on this day. Indeed, we celebrate the day with great
festivities. The 26th March is not merely a date, it is a day of great victory,
