What to expect: 

It finally feels like spring in Adelaide after weeks of chilly winds and intermittent showers. It's still not shorts weather yet but the sun will be out throughout the day and will stay put for pretty much the entire first innings and a bit of the second. The pitch for the first round of games here earlier in the week seemed to have a lot of runs in them and that should remain the case on Friday too. Adelaide is a good venue to defend totals, and with Australia's chances of staying alive on the line, that's what they'll look to do too.

Injured/Unavailable: Australia continue to sweat on Finch and David, to a lesser extent, but Marcus Stoinis seemed to have pulled up a lot better and had a long hit alongside Glenn Maxwell.

Tactics & Matchups:

Australia have no choice but to throw everything they've got at the gritty Afghans and hope for the best. Whether that means getting Mitchell Starc to open the bowling again and give them a blistering start with the ball, or even perhaps promoting some of their bigger hitters when they get to bat and hopefully set a target.

It's a pity that we haven't seen enough of Afghanistan in this World Cup to really get stuck in to their tactics. But having Rashid Khan fit in time for the big 'home' game in Adelaide is one match-up that they and everyone involved were hoping doesn't get scuppered. And with Rashid set to play, their plans will revolve around his mastery with the ball and bat with the otherwise settled side playing around him. Rashid Khan has dismissed Stoinis thrice and Finch twice in T20 cricket. Matthew Wade, however, has never gotten out in 49 balls from Rashid and has scored at a strike-rate of 153.13 against the maverick spinner.

"Not bad when it's in cricket terms. Anything else, maths wasn't my best subject at school. One thing that I love is when they have a runs per over required when you're chasing because sometimes it comes up on the screen and it might say 57 runs off 36 balls. To try and quickly work out what that looks like in runs per over, that's not my strength. But if it says on the board, you need 11 an over or 6 an over, then you can start to develop a game plan around that rather than having to worry about doing the maths, because that's never been my strong point.
